$35.00

The item is a vintage Japanese lacquered bamboo plate known as a Take-zara, created by the renowned Kyoto lacquerware company, Zohiko. It is decorated with a design of a flying crane (Hizuru) using gold leaf and has the Zohiko mark stamped on the bottom. The condition is excellent with the original box and Japanese description insert. The dimensions are 8.2 inches (21 cm) by 8.2 inches (21 cm) and 0.9 inches (2.5 cm) deep.

The plate was handcrafted in Kyoto, Japan, where Zohiko was founded in 1661. The plate is made of woven bamboo (Take) and coated in black lacquer (Urushi). The flying crane (Hizuru) is decorated with genuine gold leaf, a technique known as maki-e. A gold leaf flying crane is a symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture. The plate exemplifies Kyoto-style lacquerware, known for its elegance and refinement. The Zohiko mark is stamped on the underside of the plate.

Zohiko is one of Japan's oldest and most prestigious lacquerware establishments, with a history spanning over 350 years. The company is celebrated for its use of traditional techniques and high-quality craftsmanship, including the application of gold and silver leaf to create exquisite designs.
